Katy's Corner: The last time Kurt Busch had a top ten finish at Martinsville Speedway was in October of 2005. In the seven races since then Busch has finished no higher than 11th. On Sunday he is looking to change those odds and get back in the Chase for the Sprint Cup.
In recent weeks Busch has been consistent. He had led laps, finished in the top ten numerous times, and had a strong car. It hasn't been enough to compete with the horsepower under the hood of the Hendrick Motorsports machines driven by Johnson and Martin. Still, as he sits in fifth place in the points standings with only five races to go before the title is awarded, Busch isn't ready to hand Johnson his forth Cup just yet.
If Busch has proved on thing this season it's that last years stats or his stats from 2004 don't really matter in the grand scheme of things. Busch has had success this season on tracks where he has historically faltered and some of his worst races have come at tracks where he has won or finished in the top 10 consistently throughout his career. Most of the media may be ready to give the win to Johnson given his recent domination, but don't count out Kurt Busch or the other 11 drivers just yet. Anything can happen and with 5 races to go the trophy and the glory are still up for grabs.
