The 19-year-old ran a lap of 124.630 mph and time of 15.396 seconds at Friday's session. Currently 14th in the points standings, Logano ranks ahead of his Joe Gibbs Racing teammates Kyle Busch (15th) and Denny Hamlin (22nd).
Kurt Busch has the outside pole, with a lap of 123.857 mph, 15.492 seconds. Busch has five victories at the short track and is looking to capitalize on his win two weeks ago at Atlanta.
After trying for the last four races, Casey Mears qualified on time for his first Sprint Cup event with Keyed-Up Motorsports. Mears will start 34th.
The Food City 500 will be broadcast Sunday at 1 p.m. on FOX. Green flag is scheduled for 1:13 p.m. ET.
