World Wrestling Federation superstar "Stone Cold" Steve Austin has been named Grand Marshal for the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway on Sunday, March 21, 2010.
The 45-year-old Austin is a six-time WWF Champion, an Intercontinental and World Tag Team Champion, three-time Royal Rumble Match winner, King of the Ring winner and three-time WWE Championship at WrestleMania winner.
"Food City is honored to have "Stone Cold" Steve Austin serve as Grand Marshal of our event," said Steven C. Smith, Food City President/CEO. "He has a huge fan base and it's a credit to our region to have someone of his magnitude represent our company."
Austin attended North Texas State University on a football scholarship and in 1988, began training as a wrestler, making his professional debut in the WCW in 1991. After winning two championships in four years with WCW, he briefly joined ECW before being recruited by Vince McMahon to join the WWF. At WWF, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin became one of the most marketable and well-known wrestlers in history, becoming known for his constant spats with management that usually ended with his signature move, the "Stone Cold Stunner."
Austin retired from professional wrestling in 2003. Always the entertainer, he turned his attention to acting. He landed a six-episode arc on Nash Bridges, and followed it up with roles on MADtv and The Bernie Mac Show, before his breakout performance in 2005 starring opposite Adam Sandler in The Longest Yard. Austin then starred in The Condemned, one of the WWE's most recognized films. In 2010, he will be seen on the big screen starring opposite Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham and Jet Li in The Expendables.
The Food City 500 gets under way at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 21. Qualifying for the Food City 500 Sprint Cup event will take place on Friday, March 19 at 3:40 p.m. Qualifying for the Scotts Turf Builder 300
Nationwide Series event will take place on Saturday, March 20 at 9:40 a.m., with the race scheduled to follow at 2:30 p.m. The Scotts EZ Seed Showdown, featuring retired NASCAR drivers, will take place directly after the Scotts Turf Builder 300.
Tickets are available for race weekend, including a weekend package for all three days for only $99. Individual tickets also are available for each day.
