I don't know about you, but I've noticed quite a trend over the past few years. I've found whoever goes on to win the Daytona 500 has a horrible season. The "sitting duck" as I like to call him, will win the Daytona 500 but not go on to win any other race and/or have an overall crappy season. For example, take Matt Kenseth last year. He won the Daytona 500 and the Auto Club 500 the following week...but didn't even make the chase, let alone win any more races! Overall, he had a horrible season. How about Ryan Newman back in '08? His stats weren't that great either. He won the 500 and managed quite a few top 10 finishes, but wasn't really on the spectrum. And the same goes for pretty much everyone else who's won the Great American Race. Kevin Harvick in '07; he won the 500, and managed 15 top ten finishes but that's all. No chase. It's kind of sad to see someone win the Great American Race but not go on to win anything else.
Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying these drivers are bad or they stink or anything...cause I'm not. I'm just saying whoever goes on to win the Daytona 500 ends up having a crappy season overall. I mean yeah, they'll get some Top 10 finishes, but that's basically all. No other wins. So who will be the sitting duck of 2010? Or will the luck change and whoever wins will have a fantastic year? Guess we'll just have to wait until the checkered flag to see what happens.
