Here at Skirts and Scuffs we have opinions. That's what happens when you get a bunch of female race fans together. We understand the Chase is months away, but still we thought it would be fun if our panel of writers made their predictions for the 2010 Champions before the season begins.
Today Gina shares her predictions for 2010. Let her know what you think of her picks in the comments below.
Sprint Cup Series: DENNY HAMLIN
Sprint Cup Series: DENNY HAMLIN
Denny is my pick for the 2010 Sprint Cup Series champion. In the Chase, he ran so well and was one of the only guys who could give Jimmie Johnson a run for his money. Without those 2 DNF's in a row, who knows where Denny would have finished in the standings (he ultimately finished 5th). He beat Jimmie in 5 out of the 10 Chase races in 2009, and that's with the DNF's. Also, he believes he can beat Jimmie Johnson. The confidence to do it helps. Honestly, it is just a guess on who will win the Championship in 2010. At the end of 2008, everyone thought Carl Edwards would be the man to beat in 2009- he didn't win a race and finished 11th in the standings. But, I truly believe Denny Hamlin will have the willpower and speed to beat Jimmie next season!
Nationwide Series: CARL EDWARDS
If Kyle Busch was running the full schedule again (and as of right now he's only supposed to run 22-24 races), he would have been my pick hands down. But since he isn't running the full schedule, my pick is Carl Edwards. I think Brad Keselowski will also be a strong contender, but I don't think he'll be able to beat Carl. Carl had a lot of bad luck in the 2009 Nationwide season, but he also won 5 times. Carl is one of those guys that is a really hard racer and wants to win. He came from the back to the front numerous times last season to win. I think he will continue he winning ways this season on his way to the 2010 Nationwide championship. Also, I think if Brad keeps up his aggressive behavior, he won't be around at the end of the races very long, if you know what I mean :)
Camping World Truck Series: RON HORNADAY JR.
For me, this is the obvious choice. Almost every weekend, his team is flawless. They win A LOT (I believe it was 5 in a row they won in 2009) and when they don't win, they finish in the top 5 or top 10 almost every week. I think Skinner, Bodine, and Crafton will be obvious contenders also but they need to pick up the pace if they are going to beat Hornaday. I also think Kyle Busch Motorsports will be strong, but probably won't be contending for a championship just yet. Plus, Ron is coming off momentum from his 2009 championship, and it wouldn't surprise me one bit if they won it in 2010!
My picks are pretty much guesses! It's so hard to determine who you think will win a race much less a championship when the sport is so unpredictable! But that's what I love about this sport. We'll just have to wait and see at Homestead!

Well, I picked Denny WAY before he tore his ACL. I still think he can get it done though because of how much he wants it. Although it'll be much harder!
ReplyDeleteDenny was actually my first choice but then I got to thinking about a few others and finally settled on another driver. Guess you will have to tune in on Wednesday to see who i picked.
ReplyDeleteDenny's a little too up and down for me. He does really good for a few races, then has a few good races, or he has a "bad" season and then a good one. I'd love to see him do good because I pretty much like him, except for the whole Paris Hilton thing lol
ReplyDeleteGood solid picks. Wouldn't be surprised if you at LEAST get two out of three right. :) Cup side is really unpredictable, but it'd be remiss thinks Denny isn't going to have an amazing year in 2010.
