If you haven’t noticed, each of our writers has been making their picks for the 2010 Championship. We’ve seen a lot of different choices and now it’s time for Jenn to share her picks. Let her know what you think in the comments below.
Sprint Cup Series: Jeff Gordon
Though it pains me to say this, my pick for the 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion is Jeff Gordon. At the end of the 2009 season, it became clear that few drivers had any hope of challenging Hendrick drivers. Jeff had a strong season, but he’s being overshadowed by his teammates. Junior remains in the spotlight regardless of how he drives and everyone expects Jimmie Johnson and Mark Martin to do well. Now that Jeff has his personal life under control, he’s ready to start focusing on his professional life. Combine that with the fact that he’ll probably retire in the next few years and he’s ready to grab another championship trophy.
Nationwide Series: Jason Leffler
Popular money is on Carl Edwards to walk away with the title again, but let’s not count out the full-time Nationwide drivers, especially Jason Leffler. We’ve already seen what Toyota drivers can do and what drivers can do under the tutelage of Braun Racing. Plus, don’t forget that Leffler finished forth and was the highest finishing driver not driving in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. With 8-top 5 finishes and an astounding 20-top 10 finishes, this veteran of the Nationwide Series is tired of watching the Cup drivers run all over him on the race track. Look for him to have a great year and possibly snag that championship away from the favorites.
Camping World Truck Series: Ron Hornaday Junior
How do you go against Ron Hornaday? When you think about the Camping World Truck Series, he’s the first name, and sometimes the only name, that comes to mind. With four championships under his belt, the only question is if anyone has something for him. If owner Kevin Harvick is smart, he’ll keep Hornaday under contract before another owner steals him away.
